John Chalmers (moderator) : ウィキペディア英語版 | John Chalmers (moderator) John Chalmers is a minister of the Church of Scotland, the current Principal Clerk to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and an Honorary Chaplain to the Queen. In 2014, following the withdrawal of the Rev Dr Angus Morrison on health grounds,〔http://www.churchofscotland.org.uk/news_and_events/news/2014/moderator-designate_withdraws_due_to_ill_health〕 he was nominated to be Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland for 2014-15;〔(BBC News, 2 April 2014 )〕 he was duly formally elected as Moderator on the first day of the General Assembly's week-long annual session. He succeeded the Very Rev Lorna Hood as Moderator. ==Background== Born in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, John Chalmers studied chemical engineering at the University of Strathclyde before transferring to the University of Glasgow to study divinity. He is married to Liz; they have three children. In 2011, during the General Assembly, his youngest son John James was severely injured whilst serving with the Royal Marines in Afghanistan.
